If you’re wondering if your home’s central air conditioning system needs to be upgraded, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself.
How did the A/C do last summer? If your home’s air conditioning didn’t do a great job during heat waves, has broken down more frequently in recent years, or has increased your energy costs, it’s time to look into replacement.
Have my cooling needs changed? If you have added living space to your home through a home addition or adding finished space like an enclosed sunporch but didn’t change your home’s air conditioning system, you could be pushing the A/C beyond its cooling load limit. If you have, or are planning to do those, now is the time to upgrade to a new air conditioning system to make sure it can meet the new demand for cooling.
Does my A/C use R-22 Freon? At the end of 2020, R-22 Freon production and importation were halted. Supplies are limited if you require it for your air conditioning system. The law of supply and demand is in play, with R-22 Freon costs increasing dramatically as a result. Refilling your R-22 Freon may cost up to $600! And as supplies continue to dwindle, that price is only going up. A new A/C will eliminate that expensive problem.
If your home does not have ductwork, you may have thought that you only have two options when it comes to having air conditioning in your home, and neither of those options are all that great.
You could add ductwork to your home for central air conditioning. But that is likely cost-prohibitive for many people. It’s also a big mess inside your home for weeks as walls and ceilings need to be cut into to install the ductwork.
Or you could use window A/C units. But they’re unsightly. They’re noisy. You must install them in the spring and remove them in the fall. They’re inefficient, driving up your energy costs. They block light. They are a security risk. They let in dust, dirt, pollen, and bugs.
Skip those options and go for a better one: ductless mini-splits! You don’t need ductwork to get quiet, energy-efficient, unobtrusive comfort. You can zone your home’s cooling for even greater energy efficiency.
Don’t sweat this summer! Contact JW Pierson to get started on adding a new central air conditioning system or ductless mini-splits to your home.
