Gear Up for the Cold with a Heating Oil Delivery

How much fuel is in your heating oil tank right now?

heating oil West Orange, NJFall might have been mild in West Orange and elsewhere in Essex, Passaic and Bergen counties, but the boilers and furnaces of JW Pierson customers have started running more often. When icy winter weather arrives in our part of New Jersey, it’s crucial to keep an adequately filled heating oil tank. The last thing you want is to be left without heat on a freezing night.

Luckily, the JW Pierson heating oil delivery team is the best in the business. We always show up when we say we will and fill your tank quickly and safely. In this post, we want to take you through when and how to arrange a heating delivery. We’ll also tell you how we can plan your fuel delivery schedule for you — for FREE!

How to Check Your Oil Tank Levels

Your heating oil tank has a gauge, usually found on top. It’s like a little glass or plastic vial with a disc inside, marked just like a car’s fuel meter with F, ¾, ½, and ¼. The disc tells you how full the tank is. If you see the disc near the bottom or it’s not visible, your tank’s almost empty. So, give us a shout for a fuel delivery!

For our “will call” customers, make sure to reach out when your tank gauge hits about ¼ full so we can get your delivery to you before you run out.

Getting Ready for Your Heating Oil Delivery

As the weather gets colder and snowfall enters the picture, our drivers have more homes on their delivery schedule. Plus, the challenges of winter deliveries can make for a more arduous process. But you can help ensure that your heating oil delivery goes smoothly and keep our drivers on schedule with these simple steps:

  1. Ensure your house number is visible by clearing any foliage or snow that might block it and keeping your outdoor lights on.
  2. Open any gates to driveways or fences to allow access to your tank or fill pipe. (Be sure your pets are inside.)
  3. Please shovel a path through the snow to your home.
  4. Mark your tank or fill pipe with a high-visibility stake and a brightly colored ribbon or flag.
  5. Ensure your driveway is properly salted, sanded and plowed to provide a safe pathway for our delivery truck. Our trucks need a 9-foot to 10-foot-wide clear path in your driveway. If you’re on an incline, the driver must be able to apply their wheelchocks safely.
